The Rough Sea can appear at any Sea Danger Level from 1 to 6, including the Second Sea, and it clears surrounding rocks while dimming the area and generating lightning that only targets players and their boats. Sharks, piranhas, and terrorsharks may spawn and actively pursue players.
Because the darkness and lightning hinder combat, it is advised not to hunt Sea Beasts, conduct Ship Raids, or engage in other sea events while in a Rough Sea. Using a sturdy, fast boat such as the Lantern or Guardian from the Boat Dealer improves safety when traveling through the event.
